Legal
Privacy policy
How SlotScroll handles personal information, written to the standards of Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. Who we are
SlotScroll (“we”, “us”) publishes independent comparisons of the casino operators registered for Ontario's regulated market. For the purposes of PIPEDA and the GDPR we are the organisation accountable for the personal information described in this policy. Privacy enquiries: [email protected].
2. Our starting position: we collect as little as possible
This is a static information site. We do not operate reader accounts, we do not run a newsletter sign-up, we do not host a comment system, and we do not ask for your name, address, date of birth, payment details or identity documents. We have no interest in building a profile of you.
3. What we collect, why, and on what basis
3.1 Technical information collected automatically
Like any web server, our hosting infrastructure records standard request data: IP address, approximate location derived from it, date and time, the page requested, HTTP status, referring URL and browser user-agent string. This is used to deliver pages, maintain security and diagnose faults. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)); under PIPEDA, implied consent for the operation of the service you requested.
3.2 Analytics (optional)
If you accept optional cookies, we may record aggregate statistics about which pages and tables readers use, how far they scroll and which links they follow. We use this to decide what to review and rewrite next. Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)); express opt-in consent under PIPEDA. You can decline, and declining changes nothing about your access to any content.
3.3 Affiliate attribution (optional)
If you accept optional cookies and then follow a link to an operator, a cookie or URL parameter may record that the visit originated from SlotScroll, so that the operator can attribute any resulting commission. This records the referral, not your activity inside the operator's site. Legal basis: your consent.
3.4 Correspondence
If you email us, we hold your message and email address for as long as needed to deal with it and to keep a record of corrections made to our content. Legal basis: legitimate interest in responding to correspondence and maintaining editorial accountability.
3.5 Age confirmation and theme preference
The 19+ confirmation you give on arrival and your light or dark theme choice are held in ordinary browser memory for the duration of the page session only. They are not written to storage, not transmitted to us, and not used to identify you.
4. What we never do
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not rent or trade mailing lists.
- We do not knowingly collect information from anyone below the legal gambling age in their province. This site is intended only for adults of legal gambling age.
- We do not attempt to identify individual readers from analytics data.
- We do not use dark patterns to obtain consent: refusing optional cookies takes one click and restricts nothing.
5. Third parties
Our pages load web fonts from Google Fonts, which necessarily discloses your IP address to that service in order to deliver the font files. Our hosting provider processes request data on our behalf. Affiliate networks and operators receive referral information only when you choose to follow an outbound link and only where you have accepted attribution cookies. Once you arrive at an operator's site you are subject to that operator's own privacy policy, over which we have no control — if you register an account, the operator, not SlotScroll, becomes responsible for the personal and financial information you give it.
6. International transfers
Our infrastructure and service providers may process data outside Canada, including in the United States and the European Union. Where personal information is transferred out of the European Economic Area, we rely on the transfer mechanisms permitted by the GDPR, including standard contractual clauses where applicable. Under PIPEDA, information processed outside Canada is subject to the laws of the receiving jurisdiction.
7. Retention
Server logs are retained for a short operational period and then deleted or aggregated. Aggregate analytics are retained in non-identifying form. Correspondence is retained for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was sent and for our editorial correction record.
8. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to any collected data is limited to the people who need it for the purposes above. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure, and we do not hold payment card data of any kind.
9. Your rights
Subject to the applicable law, you may ask us to:
- confirm whether we hold personal information about you, and give you access to it;
- correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- delete information we no longer have a lawful basis to keep;
- restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- withdraw consent to optional cookies at any time, by declining in the cookie notice or clearing cookies in your browser;
- receive a copy of information you provided in a portable format, where the GDPR right to data portability applies.
Write to [email protected]. We respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in the EEA and the UK, to your national data-protection authority.
10. Cookies
Categories, purposes and how to refuse them are set out in our cookie policy.
11. Changes to this policy
We will update this page if our practices change, and will change the date below when we do. Material changes will be flagged in the cookie notice.
